Traditionally, Gulab Jamun are prepared by Indian Pastry Chefs (called Halwai) after cooking milk for a long time, low and slow until it thickens into a thick and creamy mass called mawa in hindi. Modern day's, quick version of mawa, is Milk Powder. Easy, handy, and the choice of people like me.
Steps to make Gulab jamun (milk powder):
- Take a pan add ghee, milk and milk powder now switch on the flame.
- Make a thick paste in continuously stirring for 4 to 5 min than switch off the flame.
- Now let it cool for 5 min than add all-purpose flour and baking powder and 1 tbsp water and mix it with your palm and make a smooth dough.(no lumbs).
- Now make a sugar syrup of 1 string comsistency. (one cup water plus 11/2 cup sigar)
- Now make small balls out of it and fry it in oil or ghee at low medium flame till golden brown colour and dip these balls in a sugar syrup for 1 hr
